Hi, I had a question for you after your very helpful gif tutorial. I’ve been using it for the past couple of weeks to help me make some gifs which come a lot better than before I was using photoshop. I have a question on PSDS though, what are they exactly and do you know any good ones that’ll help with anime gifs in general?

Hey!, Sorry for the late? reply (I was sleeping) and also wanted time to think of a proper reply instead of half assing it. PSD’s are just PhotoShop Documents. So they can be pretty much anything and everything that has to do with photoshop. Anime PSD’s are pretty abstract. Pretty much no single PSD works with every single type of anime scene. Hence most people have many, many different types of PSD’s to work with all the different types of scenes. Back when I started I relied on other peoples PSD’s and had probably 70-100 different PSD’S just because anime scenes are just so different that you really need to have that many to get a colouring that suits your style. Back when I started, I used PSD’s from many different types of blogs, here are some of them which I found to be very good.

Remember you don’t always have to download anime PSD’s if you think a PSD that is not anime might work with that anime or scene give it a try. Also look up colouring tutorials and try to learn how to colour by yourself, believe me it gets easier and if you know how to want it to look even better. (I recommend auto curves before starting to colour any scene or put on any PSD).

Tips I might have (if you could even call them tips) are that don’t just put on PSD’s and think your done with the colouring. Open up the PSD and mess around with it, close some layers and see what it does. Look at what each layer does and remember so you can use it later. Don’t be afraid to experiment or even add your own layers of colouring. Also I made it seem like I am some sort of ultimate colouring master but I am also pretty new to this. I know many people that do some of the most beautiful colourings and wonder how they do it. But if I look at my colouring from a year ago when I started I can see a lot of progress. Nowadays I don’t exactly use other people’s PSD’s but I definitely save some base PSD’s that I have made to work with (most) scenes and colour on top of them.

Lastly don’t forget to have fun, this is after all a hobby (right?) and if you get frustrated with colouring a scene leave it for a while and come back when you are calm. Frustration only makes your colouring’s worse and can ruin a pretty good gif or edit when you just want to finish colouring it as fast as possible.

Last note, hit me up with some of your gifs, I would love to see them and possibly some before and after progress?
